Testing methods to kill sea vomit

In Haugesund harbour, marine scientists have started experiments with the use of quicklime to kill sea vomit (Didemnum vexillum). Sea vomit is a species of colonial tunicate in the family Didemnidae, that does not naturally belong in Norwegian waters. Sea vomit often establish themselves in harbors. It is probably often transported by ship traffic. It can grow on docks, ship hulls, small boats and floating objects such as ropeworks, floating jetties and wind turbines, among other things. Havnespy er en type sjøpung som ikke hører naturlig til i norske farvann. Som navnet tilsier, etablerer havnespy seg ofte i havner. Sannsynligvis transporteres den ofte ved hjelp av skipstrafikk. Sjøpungen kan blant annet vokse på kaier, skipsskrog, småbåter og flyteobjekter som tauverk, flytebrygger og blåser.
