E-democracy and building the Open Parliament | Cristiano Ferri | TEDxLiberdade

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Cristiano Ferri developed the Legislative e-Democracy Program, an online platform of the Brazilian House of Representatives, that allows thousands of citizens to interact with lawmakers, comment on legislation, and debate policy. On the TEDx stage, he demonstrates online tools that catalyze citizen engagement in creating law and policy--allowing people to interact directly with lawmakers, comment on legislation, and debate policy. Cristiano Ferri Faria is currently the Director of the Hacker Laboratory in the Brazilian House of Representatives. He is also the developer and manager of the Legislative e-Democracy Program at Brazilian House of Representatives. As senior official of the House for 21 years, he has built expertise in lawmaking, opening parliament, digital democracy, parliamentary informatics, transparency, innovation in public sector and quality of law (legistic). Faria is a research associate from Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation, Harvard Kennedy School. He holds a PhD in sociology and political science at the Institute for Social and Political Studies, State University from Rio de Janeiro and a Master of Science degree in public policy from Queen Mary’s College, University of London. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
