This was Mirai the Amur leopard’s very first time as a mother. She was supposed to spend the day outside with her baby girl. But the cub didn’t come out. Again and again, Mirai went back to check on her. She tried to carry her outside. She rearranged the space, as if trying to make everything right. Then, as she gently lifted her cub in her mouth, you can see it — she senses something is wrong. Mirai keeps calling. Over and over. As if asking for help. As if begging the world to be kind to her child. Later, it was discovered that the cub had a fractured leg. On this day, we witnessed something powerful — a mother doing everything she possibly could to protect her baby.
