My background as a shoemaker began when I attended a shoemaking school and was taught by three shoemakers. My second mentor was Masatoshi Sato, the previous owner of Hudson Shoe Store. Mr. Sato was the only shoemaker in Yokohama at the time who created shoes for many prominent figures, including former Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida and Yujiro Ishihara, and received numerous awards, including a letter of appreciation from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Governor's Award. I feel incredibly fortunate to have learned genuine shoemaking techniques from such a master craftsman, and it has allowed me to immerse myself even more deeply in the world of shoemaking. Currently, as the second-generation owner of Hudson Shoe Store, I am dedicated to repairing your shoes. Hudson Shoe Store has been repairing shoes in Yokohama for 60 years, from 1961 (Showa 36) to the present day. The shoe repair industry is becoming increasingly mechanized, and the number of shoe repair shops run by shoemakers is decreasing. However, there are still people who need shoe repairs that can only be done by hand, and who require those skills. At Hudson Shoe Store, we work in this niche market with dedication and pride, while also ensuring the proper transmission of skills and contributing to the development of the shoe industry.
