So I would skip the first generation 4Runner because there's only one ad there :    • 1987 Toyota 4Runner commercial   Nearly four decades ago, a Toyota legend was born. In 1984, the first Toyota 4Runner rolled onto North American showrooms, presenting as an odd lovechild between a Toyota pickup and Land Cruiser. The first-gen Toyota 4Runner was on sale for five years, more than long enough to prove that it deserved proper investment. Toyota released a second generation 4Runner for the 1990 model year, Toyota still stuck with the pickup (sold widely as Hilux) platform, and from the front to the B-pillar, the cars remained the same. But this time, the removable fiberglass truck bed top was no more, replaced with the SUV’s integrated hatchback design, developed in two-door and four-door steel bodies. Toyota even removed the rear leaf springs and gave the 4Runner a multilink coil suspension. It was still rugged, thanks to a solid rear axle. For the 1992 model year, the 4Runner received minor cosmetic updates. In 1994, safety and media ruled. The 4Runner now included side-impact protection, a third brake light, and optional four-wheel antilock brakes (V6 models only). The fully-optioned models came with a built-in CD player and eight-speaker array, sunroof, and leather upholstery. This 4Runner carried over the same engine options from the previous model; the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 116 hp and the 3.0-liter V6 with 150 hp.
