Opeth - Benighted (guitar and vocal cover)
1 guitar, 1 voice, 1 take! Acoustic guitar and vocal arrangement of Benighted by Opeth. What comes up whenever someone comes over and asks me to "play something" on the guitar. Not only is it my favorite song to play, it's virtually the only piece I played for years without ever really taking the time to properly learn it. It is a great song to pick up the guitar again because the fingerpicking patterns make it game-like. Every section has exciting patterns that build up to a goal-like harder part that is very satisfying to pull off well. And you just know that it will never be precisely perfect, but getting closer is its own reward. The bounciness of the last riffs is the perfect ending to recapitulate what was learned while adding new joy. Do all musicians have this "one song" that safeguards their relationship with their instrument, even when said relationship is fragile? What's yours?
