একই পথের পথিক: ভারত চীন ইরান ইসরাইল | কথাব্রজ...সঙ্গে শশাঙ্ক From ancient times, roads and communication networks were difficult but did exist in India and beyond. In India, we had the Uttarapath and Dakshinapath, and as time progressed, these roads—along with others from various ancient empires—gradually interconnected to form a vast road network well before the birth of Jesus Christ. The earliest major initiative in this regard came from the Chinese Emperor Wu. Over time, this network expanded eastward to Korea and westward to Israel, eventually bridging Europe and Asia in what became known as the Silk Route. Simultaneously, a Maritime Silk Route was also developed. The Silk Route was not merely a trade route but a channel for the exchange of culture, religion, science, technology, language, cuisine, and ideas. This exchange between countries across both ends of the route shaped civilizations. The Silk Route flourished from the 2nd century BCE to the 16th century CE. After this period, it began to decline for various reasons. Although different empires attempted to revive it, the Maritime Silk Route gradually became more efficient and time-saving for trade between the East and West. Consequently, traders began to favor sea routes, leading to the decline of the overland Silk Route. In recent times, the Chinese government has launched the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to revive the spirit of the old Silk Route. Over 150 countries have joined hands with China in this project. However, the Indian government has chosen not to participate in this initiative.
