Choking and Swallowing Issues with Parkinson’s
The speech and swallowing changes that sometimes accompany Parkinson’s can interfere with daily activities like eating and communication. Join us for a discussion about how speech therapy can improve quality of life in people with PD. Julia Nicholls received her master’s degree in Communication Disorders from California State University, Los Angeles. She has worked as a speech-language pathologist in Outpatient Neurological Rehabilitation at Cedars-Sinai since 2005. Her areas of interest include working with adults with strokes, traumatic brain injuries, Parkinson’s disease, and brain tumors. She is part of the multi-disciplinary Movement Disorders clinic at Cedars-Sinai for those with Parkinson’s and other movement disorders. Julia is an adjunct professor and clinical educator at California State University, Los Angeles. She also teaches at Santa Monica College Emeritus in the Acquired Brain Injury Program, facilitating cognitive-communication groups for people with acquired brain injuries. She is also a board member of PCLA.
