Sebelum Menyemai, Gapoktan Baganjawa Pesisir Gelar Semah Sawah, Harapkan Hasil Berlimpah

BAGANJAWA PESISIR, BANGKO – Hundreds of farmers belonging to the Baganjawa Pesisir Farmers Group (Gapoktan) in Bangko District, Rokan Hilir Regency, held the Semah Sawah tradition on Sunday (July 5, 2026) as a form of prayer and gratitude ahead of the rice planting season. This tradition, which has been passed down through generations, is performed before the rice seedlings are sown. Through Semah Sawah, farmers pray for safety, soil fertility, and protection from pests and plant diseases, so that they can achieve a bountiful harvest. During the ceremony, the Head of the Baganjawa Pesisir Farmers Group, Panut, distributed yellow rice to the farmers to take and scatter in their respective rice fields as part of the Semah Sawah ritual. The simultaneous sowing is scheduled to begin on July 10, 2026. Currently, there are 16 farmer groups managing 383 hectares of rice fields in the Baganjawa Pesisir Village. It is hoped that this tradition will inspire and strengthen the unity of farmers in increasing agricultural productivity. The headman of Baganjawa Pesisir, Taufik Basirun, stated that Semah Sawah is not merely a ceremony, but rather an expression of gratitude for the blessings and crops that have been given. Meanwhile, the Rohil Food Security and Agriculture Agency encourages farmers to work together in the seeding and planting process to minimize the risk of pest attacks.
