This Byzantine fortress was founded between the 6th and 11th centuries as a guard post for the defense of Mangup. Today, little remains of it—the ruins of a wall and a partially preserved tower, 10 meters high and 8 meters in diameter. But even these remains give an idea of ​​its former grandeur and the skill of the builders. From the top of the cape, breathtaking views of the Belbek River valley and the surrounding area open up. The name of the fortress, Suren (Scivarin), comes from the Gothic scivaro, meaning "a fragment of rock or stone." A leisurely climb from the village takes about half an hour. Near the fortress is the men's cave monastery of the Great Martyr Theodore Stratelates—one of the ancient spiritual sites of Crimea, where history and faith are intertwined, preserving the memory of the saint's spiritual struggle.
