Bulleh Shah (1680–1757) was an 18th-century Punjabi Sufi poet and philosopher from Kasur (now in Pakistan). A disciple of Inayat Shah, he rejected orthodox rituals and external religious identities, instead championing love, tolerance, and self-realization as the true path to God. His powerful kafis (poems) used simple, rustic language and folk metaphors to challenge social hypocrisy, caste divisions, and gender norms. Through verses like "Tere Ishq Nachaya", he spoke of divine love with raw passion and playful irony. Today, Bulleh Shah remains one of South Asia's most beloved spiritual voices, whose revolutionary message transcends religion and continues to inspire musicians, poets, and seekers worldwide.
