Lockdown Jam (Sydney Mavundla)

The Sydney Mavundla Quartet’s performance at the inaugural Forest Jazz Festival in Knysna, South Africa, on 25 October 2025. As a debut event, the festival provided an important platform for leading South African musicians to present original works that highlight innovation in composition, ensemble performance, and intercultural musical exchange. The quartet performed a cohesive programme of original compositions by Sydney Mavundla, drawing on South African cultural heritage while engaging with global jazz traditions. Through collaborative improvisation and dynamic ensemble interaction, the performance explored themes of identity, creativity, and artistic expression within a contemporary jazz context.
