¡MÁS GRANDE QUE CHANCAY! El Mega Puerto es la "Cintura del Perú" que conectará a Brasil con el Mundo
Here is an interesting interview with Jacobo Cavenago, a businessman from Chimbote, who describes an ambitious strategic vision to transform Ancash into a world-class logistics hub by building a mega-port in Chimbote. Ancash is preparing to lead trade in South America with a shorter, more direct, and more efficient route that promises an unprecedented economic boom. While the world's attention is focused on Chancay, a spectacular alternative is emerging that promises to transform the Peruvian economy: the Great Megaport of Chimbote. Strategically located in what is known as the "belt of the country," this project is positioned as the shortest route to connect the giant Brazilian market with the Pacific ports. The Brazilian giant seeks an outlet through Chimbote. Brazil has a massive production of more than 200 million head of cattle and has boosted its soybean production from 65 to 115 million tons. Currently, the Chinese project in Chancay is planning a complex route involving trains and highways through Pucallpa and Oyón. However, the Chimbote option via the Ancahuano-Cuyucayale highway is much more direct and efficient. "Even if just 10 million tons pass through the Port of Chimbote, it would be a gain," experts say regarding the impact of capturing a fraction of this trade. An engine of industrial and mining development: This port not only seeks to overcome the limitations of neighboring ports like Salaverry—where constant dredging and high costs prevent the entry of deep-draft vessels—but would also become the main outlet for the region's wealth. Currently, 60% of Ancash's coal is exported to major powers like China and India through Salaverry or Callao, but a dedicated megaport would allow for the processing and export of minerals such as gold, silver, and concentrates directly from the area, driving massive industrial and employment development. Agrarian Revolution: The end of "half-baked projects": The vision for development goes beyond the port. Faced with the stagnation of projects like Chinecas, the alternative of utilizing lagoons like Pelagatos is emerging. This water resource alone could generate 12,000 new hectares of agricultural land for producing high-value export products such as avocados, mangoes, and blueberries. Thanks to the wonderful microclimates of areas like Moro and Jimbe, Ancash could finally surpass the agro-industrial success of other regions, consolidating a business boom that would put Peru at the forefront of South America.
