A driver who disobeyed the police's "stop" warning was caught at another traffic stop. The driver, who underwent a breathalyzer test, had a blood alcohol level of 0.87. When the driver, who also took an ID check, turned out to be 17, the fines came in rapid succession. The driver and his friend, who tried to negotiate with the police officers, said, "Brother, please give me the lowest fine. My mother will be furious if she finds out." After taunting the police for a while, the young men insisted, "The fine isn't important; just impound the car." The persistent young men then tried to bargain, saying, "Police, brother, our village is beautiful. If you come, I'll offer you olives." Despite their best efforts, he was fined 5,375 lira for disobeying a stop sign, driving without a license, and driving under the influence. Another driver spent minutes advocating for the police to keep his friend's license from being revoked after he had been found drunk. "Brother, give him all the tickets you want, but don't take my license," he insisted. The driver didn't react, but he was fined 1,823 lira for drunk driving.
