When winter arrives and conditions become harsher for our native wildlife it is time to give them a little help to get them through the worst of the weather. Home made fat balls for our wild birds gives them extra fat to keep warm and good nutritious seed to keep them strong and healthy. These balls can be made easily with a mixed wild bird seed and pure coconut oil. Optional extras include oats, soaked chopped dried fruit and seeds such as sunflower hearts, millet and linseed. This mix can be rolled into balls, hung up in teacups or crumbled onto bird tables for birds such as blackbirds who prefer to eat on the ground or on a bird table.
