Annie Laurie

Last year I asked my mother-in-law the story behind my wife's name, Annie Laurie. Her answer is what led to me secretly making this surprise video for my sweetheart. Annie received her name because of a chapel in Glendale, CA. It is a replica of a chapel in Scotland where a woman named Annie Laurie lived and worshipped in the 1600’s. The first part of this video was recorded at the remake in Glendale where my in-laws fell in love with the name Annie Laurie. In the second part, Tyler Smith plays guitar while I sing the ballad that was written in the 17th century by Annie Laurie's love, William Douglas. Happy Valentine’s Day Annie, I love you! Maxwelton's braes are bonnie, Where early fa's the dew, Twas there that Annie Laurie Gi'ed me her promise true. Gi'ed me her promise true - Which ne'er forgot will be, And for bonnie Annie Laurie I'd lay me down and dee. Her brow is like the snaw-drift, Her throat is like the swan, Her face it is the fairest, That 'er the sun shone on. That 'er the sun shone on And dark blue is her e'e, And for bonnie Annie Laurie I'd lay me down and dee. Like dew on gowans lying, Is the fa' o' her fairy feet, And like winds, in simmer sighing, Her voice is low and sweet. Her voice is low and sweet And she's a' the world to me; And for bonnie Annie Laurie I'd lay me down and dee. There are some difficult words in the ballad. Here's an explanation of them: Maxwelton- the place where Annie Laurie was from Braes- water bank Bonnie- pretty Fa's- falls Gi'ed- gave Ne'er- never Dee- die Snaw- snow 'er- ever e'e- eye Gowans- daisies o'- of Simmer- summer A'- all
