Over time, the river mouth silted up, making it inaccessible to larger ships, and the port's importance declined. 🏛 Points of Interest: St Michael’s Church – A beautiful 13th-century church with a striking tower and stained glass windows. Axmouth Old Bridge – Built in 1877, it’s one of the oldest surviving concrete bridges with its original structure intact. Walking trails – The area is full of scenic paths along the Axe Estuary and through nearby Seaton Wetlands. 🌿 Nature: The nearby Axe Estuary and Seaton Marshes nature reserves are rich in birdlife and ideal for nature walks.
