(Happiness Will Cost You)One Thin Dime - Bettye LaVette - 1964
(Happiness Will Cost You)One Thin Dime, was released in Chicago on the Constellation label by Holly Maxwell in the spring of 1965. However, Betty LaVette, had recorded the song in the fall of 1964 on the Scepter label, but it wasn't released and Maxwell ended up with the hit with it. LaVette's career has far surpassed Maxwell's but in this case the Maxwell version made it to the market while LaVette's languished in the can for years before it's release in the 1990's on the compiliation cd.
