Can You Make Syrup From Alaska Birch Trees? | Bush Plane Adventure

Honey and I flew my vintage Cessna 170B bush plane deep into the Alaska wilderness with one goal: collect enough birch sap to make real Alaska birch syrup and pour it over pancakes. It sounds simple, but birch syrup is one of the most difficult syrups to make, requiring gallons of sap and hours of boiling to produce just a small amount. Making syrup has always been one of my favorite childhood memories. Growing up, my family spent spring days collecting sap and boiling it down into syrup, making memories I'll never forget. One of our traditions was pouring fresh syrup onto the snow to make maple taffy, and of course, covering pancakes and vanilla ice cream with it. In this adventure, Honey and I set out to relive that tradition in the Alaska backcountry. After landing we searched for birch trees, tapped them, collected sap, and explored Alaska's beautiful wilderness while waiting to see if we'd gather enough for syrup. Back at camp, we spent hours boiling the sap down over the fire until it transformed into rich Alaska birch syrup. The real test, though, came at the end. After all the work, would it actually be worth it? There was only one way to find out—pour it over a stack of pancakes and take the first bite. 👍 Please Like, Subscribe, and leave a comment—there are many more Alaska adventures to come! ⭐ NEW TO THE CHANNEL?
