Part 2 in this series, we look at improving the toolpath motion with filtering of the OptiRough Toolpath. We'll look at arc filtering, line filtering, the planes in which we allow this filtering to happen, 3D arc filtering aka helical motion, as well as look at the Smoothing settings and what they are doing. These two settings, arc filtering and smoothing, will not only affect the tool motion but will also affect the amount in NC code created by the toolpath. Some controls are limited in the amount/size of NC file they can handle. Some controls are limited in the number of lines of code they are able to process quickly enough to maintain the programmed feedrate. Knowing your machine and how it functions with programs is something that will come with experience, but we can at least show you how to manipulate the gcode to get your machine doing what you need it to do. We can also dive into toolpath analysis inside of Mastercam with the Analize Tooolpath function as well as the Advanced Display options. Advanced display can quickly and easily show us all the different sections of a toolpath with different colors, and can even show the endpoints of segments for each line of code. This can save some time in not having to post out the gcode to see the affect your settings have on the tool motion.
