Río Eliche. Cañones del Mingo

Very close to the city of Jaén lies the small town of Puente de la Sierra, in the Sierra Sur region of Jaén. Leaving the town along the road that leads to the old fish farm, we reached the Eliche or Frío River. Once we found it, we stayed on its banks, following the river upstream, alternating between sections with low water but full of stones and rocks that made progress difficult. The scenery changed as we reached the Mingo Canyons, and between the two canyon walls, we continued along a river with an increasingly strong current, to the point that in some areas we had to swim to continue our journey. The route is full of waterfalls and cascades, making it a true aquatic Grand Prix, where we enjoyed ourselves like little kids until we reached a large pool surrounded by gigantic rocks. We returned along the upper path, using a sandy trail and an old footbridge where we enjoyed a bird's-eye view of the river.
