FEELING FLAT! Swan River Flats Fishing - Perth Western Australia fishing

FISHING FOR SANITY – Life only seems to get busier. Between work, kids and everything else, it’s hard to get time to head down to the Swan River and have a good kayak session. Fortunately, there’s always the flats. A quick, light alternative to the yak. I managed to sneak out for a couple of hour-long sessions during the week. Once again, flathead were the target species, but that’s only a ‘guideline’ – my REAL target was relaxation, and hopefully sanity! My first session took place after work, where I headed to the area where I broke my flathead drought from my three-day quest (   • Swan River FLATHEAD QUEST - 3 Days of FLAT...   ). This time, it happened quickly – a size flathead reeled in on a ZMan Slim Swimz in watermelon red colour. Interestingly, this one was covered in lice – which I’ve heard has been fairly common among Swan River fish of late. Still, back it went. Then, two things happened. One – my rod was smashed by a Black Bream. Two – my foot was attacked by a stroppy Blue Swimmer Crab. Avoiding the crab – the season hadn’t started yet at the time of this recording – I was able to get the Bream under control, and release It after a good tussle. A few days later, I headed down to the ever-popular Point Walter on a rare weekday morning. I had maybe 45 minutes to fish before Uncle Matt arrived for a catch-up. In that time, I was able to reel in 3 size flathead – this time on ZMan Prawnz in Calico Candy colour. The fish became the object of fascination for a group of kids there on an excursion, along with a few fellow anglers! One catchup and another crab attack later, and I left feeling revitalised. Fishing is a must for me – it helps me relax, and keeps me going. And I can keep going for at least another week!
