AndroidAPS is just a tool to help you manage your diabetes, not something you can install and then forget about! Don't assume AndroidAPS will never make mistakes. AndroidAPS takes control of your insulin delivery: always keep an eye on it, understand how it works, and learn to interpret its actions. Remember that once a smartphone is paired with your pump, it can give any instructions to the pump. Use the smartphone exclusively for AndroidAPS and—if used by a child—for essential communication. Do not install unnecessary apps or games! They could introduce malware such as Trojans, viruses, or bots that could disrupt your system. Install all security updates provided by the smartphone manufacturer and Google. You will also need to adjust your diabetes habits, as you are significantly changing your therapy with the closed loop. For example, many users experience significantly fewer hypoglycemic episodes because AndroidAPS has already reduced their insulin delivery. IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE The basic safety features of AndroidAPS described in these videos build on the safety features of the hardware with which you set up your system. It is extremely important that the insulin pump and CGM system used for a closed-loop system with automated insulin delivery are sufficiently tested and fully functional, have a CE mark (in Europe) and are approved as medical devices (in Germany). Modifications to the hardware or software of these components can lead to unexpected insulin delivery and thus pose significant risks to the user. Do not use defective, modified, or self-made insulin pumps or CGM receivers to set up or operate an AndroidAPS system. It is also equally important to use only original accessories. Insertion aids, cannulas, and reservoirs must be approved by the manufacturer for use with your pump or CGM. The use of untested or modified accessories can lead to inaccuracies in the CGM system and insulin delivery errors. Insulin is very dangerous if dosed incorrectly. Don't risk your life by using untested or modified equipment. Last but not least, you shouldn't take SGLT-2 inhibitors (gliflozin), as they lower blood sugar levels unpredictably. Combining them with a closed-loop system that lowers basal rates to raise blood sugar is especially dangerous, as the gliflozin prevents this rise in blood sugar, and a dangerous condition caused by insulin deficiency can occur.
