🇯🇵 We Bought Yachimun & Made Our Own Shisa in Okinawa 🏝️

*Okinawa has its own pottery, its own castles, its own food. It's Japan, but tropical* We spent a few days in the main Okinawan island, exploring and experiencing the tradition of Japan’s tropical region. We visited the Tsuboya Pottery Street and Yachimun no Sato, the places to go if you like Okinawan traditional ceramics, Yachimun. We had fun making our own shisa, the lion-dog statues that guard rooftops in the islands. It was a great experience working with the local clay. We also visited the ruins of the Zakimi castle, in Yomitan. This Ryukyu fortress is over 600 years old and still stands, despite its troubled past. Finally, we visited the Churaumi Aquarium, one of the largest in the world and home of Jinta, the whale shark. He shares his tank with incredible manta rays and other large fish. Of course we also ate a lot of delicious Okinawan food.
