[Subscribing is free] I've been battling this rare medical condition since December 2015. I came out of that bad surgery with multiple nerve damage. My pudendal nerve has left parts of my body paralyzed. This triggered my phrenic nerve, vagus nerve, and some sympathetic nerves to go haywire. These nerves transmit signals to the diaphragm and other respiratory muscles, causing them to contract involuntarily. The brainstem and spinal cord also play a role in processing these signals, and the resulting muscle contractions create the characteristic hiccup sound. August 2019, I posted on Facebook a private global support group with initially three of us. It took me 3.5 years to find just one other patient with this condition. The private group has grown organically from three to currently 662. All suffering severely. Where doctors are abandoning us once treatments are attempted and failed. At this point, this condition becomes a 'liability' to the physician's practice and most all work environments. Intractable Hiccups is a life altering, career snatching, severe disabling nightmare. It is a very lonely process to navigate. It is a challenging condition that I'm taking headon. Spreading awareness while helping those of us suffering a safe place to retreat and help each other.
