Bommen van '44 | Limburg Doc

The Limburg Doc Bombs of '44 is a compelling documentary about the bombings that devastated the city of Venlo in 1944, killing more than 200 civilians. It has been 80 years since Venlo was bombed eleven times by Allied bombers. Their targets were the bridges over the Meuse River, which at the time served as a supply line to the German front. However, the bombs often missed their targets, landing on both the Venlo and Blerick sides of the city. Approximately a third of Venlo was destroyed by the bombings. A total of 219 people lost their lives. For a long time, a monument to all the victims was lacking. On October 13, 2024, exactly 80 years after the first bombs fell, one will finally be erected. The documentary features an eyewitness, relatives, and a historian, among others. They share personal stories about the impact of the bombings. We will also be present at the unveiling of the monument. The documentary contains extensive historical footage (photos and videos) from before, during, and after the war.
