Tractor Giants – Part 3 starts with the Steiger story, as service technician Dick Peterson and longtime salesman Syl Melroe share firsthand accounts of the development of the world's first articulated four-wheel-drive tractors, from their origins to the present day. More than 50 years after it was built, the original Steiger No. 1 is brought back to life. Today's most powerful tractors produce well over 300 horsepower. Advanced technology has transformed them into true all-round performers, such as the Claas XERION. The camera follows the XERION 4500 and XERION 3800 for a full day as they tackle demanding agricultural work. In Saxony, the giant John Deere 9630T crawler tractor works the fields with an 8-meter cultivator, guided in perfectly straight lines by satellite navigation technology. Meanwhile, a CASE Magnum faces a much tougher challenge in the heavy soils of Romania. Near Timișoara, Italian farming investors rely exclusively on powerful CASE tractors to pull a nine-furrow plow through the dense ground after harvest. Another impressive machine is the Deutz-Fahr Agrotron X 720. Delivering nearly 300 horsepower, this green giant from the SDF Group pulls a Vicon large square baler equipped with a front-mounted forage chopper across the fields with ease. The film also looks back at a true classic. During the 1960s, the Hungarian-built Dutra D4K-B worked across much of the former East Germany and was among the most powerful tractors of its era.
