Marian Quintana interviewed Delia Manzano, Delegate of the CCOO Teaching Federation of the Canary Islands, to analyze the current situation in the education sector. This necessary conversation brings back to the forefront the urgent challenges facing the educational community, such as: the thousands of professionals who continue to be stuck on a series of temporary contracts, which do not guarantee stability or quality education. The Canary Islands also needs to strengthen its budgetary commitment to education. Manzano also highlighted the inadequate student-teacher ratios in preschools, where staff working with children aged 0-3 are not receiving salaries commensurate with their qualifications. She also emphasized the current competitive examination system, which she considers completely unfair to teachers. It is urgent to improve the working conditions of those who sustain public schools every day. Ultimately, there is no quality education without stability, adequate resources, and appropriate student-teacher ratios.
