*MAJOR* 20+ SWAT & Police Responding Code 3 To A Barricaded Suspect - Henderson Police Department

On Friday October 13th 2023, Henderson Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance at the 1900 block of Davina Street. Upon officers arrival, a male and two females became uncooperative and fought with officers. Officers requested additional units and advised that the male and a female had ran back into the residence and barricaded. One female exited the residence and was detained. The other female was detained around that time as well. The females advised the male was the only person inside and that he was unarmed. Officers setup containment on the residence, an arrest team with K9, and a command post (CP) at a nearby school and requested Henderson Fire Department (HFD) to stage. Officers attempted to contact the suspect via phone and he advised that he did have firearms and that he would stand his ground. The lieutenant requested additional units to shut down traffic on Valley Verde Drive and Davina Street. The male hung up the phone with officers several times. Officers later got contact with him on the phone again and he said he didn’t have any weapons and feels he hasn’t done anything wrong. Officer learned that the male has been drinking and was possibly high. Units requested a reverse 911 to be put out to the surrounding residences to shelter in place. The male then barricaded the back door. Officers requested Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) to respond. SWAT and CNT responded to the CP and geared up then rolled into the scene. CNT at the CP called the suspect on the phone and he answered but made threats to kill officers and that he was willing to die for this. CNT tried to deescalate the situation but the suspect was extremely uncooperative. The suspect hung up the phone and SWAT began PA announcements via the Bearcat. The CNT officers at the CP continued to call the suspect on the phone and he did answer several times and continued to make threats toward them and to light the house on fire. SWAT had to change tactics due to the suspect wanting to start a fire. The suspect would go on to answer, hang up, and decline phone calls for the rest of the call. SWAT and CNT continued PA announcements through the Bearcat. The suspect wouldn’t cooperate but would come to the door and yell then go back inside. Officers shut off power and water to the residence and had the robot set charges on the front door for a breach which was successful. The suspect still wouldn’t come out so they put charges on the garage and blew it up as well. The suspect then came to the front door and was still uncooperative reaching in his waistband which forced officers to shoot the suspect with 40mm less lethal rounds and deploy the police K9 on the suspect. They took the suspect into custody without any serious injuries. Although the suspect was transported to a local hospital for non life threatening injuries.
