Exploring Bethlehem - - The Lehigh Canal
Before trucks, even before trains, this country transported materials and goods to destination via a canal system, and one of America's first was the Lehigh Canal. The waterway connected the coal fields to the markets such as New York City and Philadelphia. During their heyday, canals were responsible as anything for creating the Industrial revolution which changed America.
