La Seconda Guerra di 'Ndrangheta, Lezioni di 'Ndrangheta #8
The Second 'Ndrangheta War Between 1985 and 1991, Reggio Calabria became what Lieutenant Colonel Angiolo Pellegrini's anti-mafia investigative directorate called "today's Sarajevo": over 250 ambushes and more than 700 deaths in six years, an average that in some months exceeds one murder every three days. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL for the next episodes of "Lessons of 'Ndrangheta" and turn on notifications so you don't miss Lesson 9! 📌 WHAT YOU'LL DISCOVER IN THIS LESSON: In this video, I reconstruct the 'Ndrangheta war that Reggio Calabria's deputy prosecutor Salvatore Boemi led to the Olimpia maxi-trial: from the car bombing of Nino Imerti on October 10, 1985, in Villa San Giovanni, to the murder of Paolo De Stefano three days later, up until August 1991, when the killing of Judge Antonino Scopelliti sealed peace between the clans. We'll explore the reconstructions of collaborators with justice Giacomo Ubaldo Lauro, Filippo Barreca, Giuseppe Scopelliti, and Giovanni Riggio, the sentences of the Olimpia maxi-trial, and the documents of the investigative directorates of the time. A story of armed truces, top-down control, high-profile crimes, and a peace that the documents define as "a business agreement": Reggio Calabria was divided up neighborhood by neighborhood, with shares and percentages like the division of company stock. In this episode: • The October 10, 1985, car bombing of Nino Imerti in Villa San Giovanni • October 13, 1985: Paolo De Stefano killed on his motorcycle, without an escort • The "strategic directions": every murder decreed by the mafia boss • January 1988: Pasquale Condello, "the Supreme," is released from prison • The murder of former Italian State Railways president Lodovico Ligato • August 9, 1991: Judge Antonino Scopelliti killed in Piale di Villa San Giovanni • The division of Reggio, neighborhood by neighborhood, and the provincial mafia boss A war that, according to the documents, ended only thanks to the intervention of Cosa Nostra as a "third guarantor" on the eve of the 1992 massacres. Watch the full video to understand why, according to investigators, Paolo De Stefano "won even in death" and why the silence that returned to the streets of Reggio after 1991 did not It's freedom. 📍 CHAPTERS 00:00 1985-1991: Reggio Calabria, today's Sarajevo 01:31 The balance before the war: Don Paolino in command 04:33: Paolo De Stefano's tactical resignation after Acqua del Gallo 07:18 The boss's arrogance: Don Paolino's isolation 09:21 The signal murders: Musella (1982) and Romeo (1985) 10:41 The car bombing of Nino Imerti on October 10, 1985 12:35 The ambush of Paolo De Stefano on October 13, 1985 14:10 The strategic directions: the rule of the cupola 17:14 Pasquale Condello "the Supreme" is released from prison, January 1988 21:02 The excellent crime: the Lodovico murder Ligato 10:57 PM Judge Antonino Scopelliti, August 9, 1991 12:01 AM The division of Reggio, neighborhood by neighborhood 10:04 PM Even in death, Paolo De Stefano wins — Who I am: Pietro Comito, journalist specializing in court reporting and organized crime.
