Today’s lesson explores Paul’s bold declaration that “the message of the cross . . . is the power of God.” For Paul, the Cross stands at the center of everything: the place of reconciliation between God and humanity, the clearest revelation of Christ’s humility, and the means by which our debt was fully paid. It is also Paul’s answer to the painful divisions troubling the church in Corinth. As we open 1 Corinthians, we will see how the power of the Cross speaks not only to their conflicts, but also to the struggles, pride, and brokenness that still challenge God’s people today. 1 Cor. 1:17-31, Col. 1:20, 1 Pet. 2:24, Acts 13:16--47, 1 Cor. 2:1-5.
