Brian Eno reflects on his best work for film and television soundtracks
Brian Eno is one of the most influential figures in late 20th century popular music. As a musician, he forged new and unexpected paths, and as a collaborator and producer, he helped some of the most innovative acts in music — including David Bowie, Talking Heads, U2 and Coldplay — get even more creative. Starting in the ‘70s with albums like Music for Airports, Eno became the chief architect of ambient music. His minimalist, atmospheric compositions attracted the attention of film directors like Danny Boyle, David Lynch and Michael Mann. Now, a new compilation album called Film Music 1976-2020 collects some of Eno's best work for film and television. Tom Power reached the musician and producer at his country home in England to talk about everything from movies to David Bowie to the Macarena.
