#64 HG: Sarah verloor haar dochter Mirthe (10) en is nu zwanger van haar tweede kindje

Welcome to 'Healing Conversations', the video podcast where every other week I talk to someone who has a special story to tell that brings hope, light, and inspiration. Sarah Groen, my guest in this episode, knows all too well that getting pregnant is not always a given. Due to a hormonal condition, she does not conceive easily, so when it turns out she is carrying a baby in 2011 after all, she and her husband Matthijs are incredibly happy. In 2012, their beautiful daughter Mirthe is born, but unfortunately, the 'pink cloud' is short-lived... Mirthe turns out to be deaf, and in the months that follow, more limitations are added: Mirthe is also blind, physically and intellectually disabled, and she develops epilepsy. It is not until six years later that a diagnosis is made: Mirthe has Spata5, a very rare genetic abnormality. Worldwide, only fifty people have this diagnosis... Fortunately, Mirthe—as long as she is not sick—is feeling increasingly comfortable in her own skin, and Sarah and Matthijs fully embrace life with her. They have fun, enjoy the little things, and do whatever they can. Their wish to have a second child is always there; sometimes in the early stages, and at other times more in the background, because caring for Mirthe takes up a lot of space. And then, three years ago, when Mirthe was ten, tragedy struck: Mirthe 'went skipping over golden streets in heaven,' as Sarah and Matthijs describe her passing. In this moving conversation, Sarah tells all about the intense years with Mirthe and what it feels like to now carry a new miracle in her belly: a second daughter...
