My dad shares the workshop and has been refurbishing an old builders hand cart, so everything was covered in fine saw dust, despite me best efforts to cover it up. As for the tests, I can only hope they prove to be a viable way of testing, I personally cannot think of any other way of testing them. Please put your thoughts on each test in the comments below please. All tests were repeated by removal and install off camera to prove repeatability of the results. Test’s on runout of the Warco VMC proved quite acceptable to me 0.015mm (0.00059 in). As for the ER 40 collet holder, That was somewhat of a different story; 0.8mm (0.03149in). Now as for the collets them self’s, I only tested 4. I simply felt that the collet holder being out this much might give a false indication & I am still not sure that it has not, none the less the results are there in mm, I am sure you are capable of googling the value in inch if you wish. As you can see in the video, It is possible to dial in the collet, to me this suggests the collets are out Size min max aver min-collet 5-6 0.08 0.19 0.13 0.0 7-8 0.1 0.245 0.171 0.02 18-19 0.12 0.19 0.152 0.03 24-25 0.12 0.19 0.152 0.03 So what’s this show, I am not totally sure, all tests were repeated by removal and install off camera to prove repeatability of the results, also the clamping nut was swapped, as such I believe the results are valid, but what they mean? The Collets all appear to have runout, however is this down to the holder, I think not but cannot rule it out. It’s all a bit open ended. As I use them I will dial in each one and mark each one so I have the minimal runout while in use. Has anyone got a quality branded set of ER40 collets and is willing to do a video as I have? For the price, the work I’m personally going to ask of them & due diligence in set up they are more than accurate for my needs. The whole set was about the same price as a top end 25mm ER40 collet!
