North Vietnam Bike Tour (part 9): Waterfalls, secret caves & more bad roads!

Welcome to part 9 of motobike tour of northern Vietnam As the title says in this video we visit a waterfall, secret caves, and encounter yet more very bad roads. But we end up at the incredible Ha Long Bay. As always we start with typically Vietnamese domed mountains, and strange haystack things. Our first port of call in this video is the impressive Ban Gioc Waterfall. One one side is China, on the other Vietnam. China has this walkway lookout Next we get to the Ly Quoc tunnel, which we ride through. Then back up into the mountains. The first night is spent at Cao Bằng (at the Muong Thanh luxury Cao Bằng Hotel) Next day the roads become a lot worse. We seem to be on dirt or gravel for most of the day. Next we arrive at Tham Kach cave. We ride through this cave for about 1km, each way. According to our guides, this cave was of strategic importance not during the American war, but in when China invaded Vietnam (once again) in 1979. This invasion was in response to Vietnam liberating Cambodia from Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge. The invasion was punitive and lasted about 1 month. Nonetheless 7000 were reportedly killed on each side, with 10,000 Vietnamese civilians dead. We are then on the home stretch to Ha Long bay. We stay at the Muong Thanh Luxury Ha Long Centre From the hotel you can see the bay, but we will properly see that in part 10. #motorcycletouring #triumphtiger800 #vietnam #northernvietnam #northernvietnammotorbike #northernvietnamtour2025 #caobằng #halong
