The name still lingers in the buildings — in the balconies, the old passages, the European façades standing shoulder to shoulder with the noise of modern Istanbul. ☕ The Sweet House From 1864 Hafız Mustafa was founded in Istanbul in 1864, during the Ottoman period. What began as a confectionery house became one of the city’s beloved names for Turkish delight, pastries, and baklava. Step near its windows and the street changes pace. Syrup, pistachio, warm pastry — suddenly walking feels almost rude. ☕ The Red Tram That Came Back The red nostalgic tram on the Taksim–Tünel line is more than a pretty detail. After old trams vanished from this part of the city, the line returned in 1990, restored like a memory placed carefully back on its tracks. It still moves through İstiklal today, slow enough for people to look up. And that is the secret of this street. It does not freeze time. It loosens it.
