Colt has has a history of making firearms that seem to be total afterthoughts. The Double Eagle which was produced for about 8 years was one such pistol. The Colt 2000 is another. The Double Eagle staggered along with increasingly slipping sales until finally it met its demise in 1997. The Double Eagle seems to have been a rushed response to the double action craze of the late 1980's and early 1990's.
