Santa María del Río – A collision between two tanker trucks carrying gasoline caused a fire at kilometer 146 of Federal Highway 57, near the community of Cerrito Tierra Quemada, at the overpass known as the Devil's Curve in the municipality of Santa María del Río. The accident between two tanker trucks resulted in both vehicles being completely engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to the asphalt in both directions, according to reports from the State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPC) of San Luis Potosí. The report reached CEPC authorities on the night of July 20, when residents notified them of the accident at the aforementioned location. Initial reports of a collision between two tanker trucks carrying gasoline, where spilled fuel was causing a fire to spread, were confirmed by authorities at the 911 Operations Center. Both vehicles caught fire immediately after the impact, and preliminary reports indicate that both drivers died in the fire, unable to escape their vehicles. The Santa María del Río Civil Protection Directorate reported that they would consider requesting additional support from fire departments once a direct assessment of the emergency was completed. It should be noted that due to the distance and the traffic congestion caused by the incident, access for fire department units to the site was initially extremely difficult. In a coordinated effort between the Santa María del Río Fire Department and Civil Protection, a perimeter monitoring and security strategy was implemented, allowing the fuel and the vehicles involved to burn themselves out in a controlled manner.
