The man in the parable is a picture of Jesus who bled and died on the cross for sinners and the man leaving the ninety-nine to find the one reminds us of Jesus, the second Person of the Trinity, who left Heaven and the glory He had there to humble Himself to be born of a virgin, to live a life of a sinless Man and then to offer His life as a sacrifice for our sins and to die and be buried and then raised again on the third day. This is the diligence of the Savior searching for lost sinners that the man in the parable is a picture of. “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?"
