THE VESSEL | Episode 1: The Awakening | Cinematic Sci-Fi | Malaysia Edition

I’m a creator from Kuching, East Malaysia, Malaysia. Since I was a kid, I loved drawing comics in school exercise books, even simple stick figures. I kept creating stories in my head, imagining scenes, characters, and entire worlds.During my teenage years, I continued drawing while slowly getting into video editing. Back then, my dream was to become a Hollywood sci-fi film editor. But because of real life and responsibilities, I had to put that dream aside for a long time. There were moments when I felt the creative skills I spent years building had no real value in the real world.Still, I never gave up my obsession with cinematic storytelling. I would replay iconic movie scenes over and over again, studying every detail and trying to understand why certain visuals could emotionally hit people so deeply. To me, powerful scenes are never accidental. There’s always a hidden creative logic behind them, and I’ve always been passionate about discovering it.When AI technology started becoming more advanced, I finally found a way to bring the worlds and stories in my mind to life. This AI sci-fi short film was created almost entirely by myself, from the scriptwriting, visual generation, and character design, to editing, pacing, and sound work. The whole production took around three months to complete.This project isn’t perfect, and there are still many things I wish I could improve. But it’s the most complete and personal work I’ve ever created so far. Everything was self-funded, costing me four figures in Malaysian Ringgit. For me, this isn’t just a short film, it’s my way of responding to the dream I had as a child.I know the ending feels rushed, and many viewers wanted more. Honestly, I feel the same way. This project took a huge amount of time and energy, and right now I want to focus on improving myself and creating something even stronger in the future. If the audience response is strong enough, I’ll seriously consider making a full version of the story.Today, I focus heavily on AI cinematic storytelling, directing mindset, editing rhythm, and visual emotion.
