PROTECT: a national perioperative platform trial to improve surgical outcomes

PROTECT is a national platform trial designed to deliver multiple multi-centre randomised and non-randomised comparisons in adult surgical patients. Individual trial components will span phase II to phase IV, depending on the specific research question. The study will be conducted across NHS surgical services and will include patients aged 18 years and over undergoing care within an NHS surgical pathway. Across all trial questions, PROTECT will collect a core set of standardised patient outcomes, where applicable. Key outcomes include: Days alive and at home 30 days after surgery (DAH30) Mortality at 30 and 90 days post-surgery Health-related quality of life (EQ-5D-5L) at 30 and 90 days after surgery Designed to run for a minimum of ten years, PROTECT is an ambitious and flexible platform intended to support multiple evolving research questions in perioperative care. https://www.bjsacademy.com/bjs-academ...
