On June 14, 2026, a meeting on defense equipment was held at the Ministry of Defense between Defense Minister Koizumi and the Dutch Minister of National Defense, during which the Netherlands expressed interest in introducing the new FFM (Fleet Fighter Mk-4). In recent years, European countries, including the Netherlands, have been actively deploying warships to the Indo-Pacific region. If the Dutch Navy were to operate Japanese-made destroyers, it would become commonplace for Dutch ships deployed to Asia to receive advanced maintenance at Japanese shipyards and JMSDF bases. Japan would be able to establish itself as a "logistical support hub" for European countries to conduct security activities in Asia, and would gain diplomatic leverage (negotiating power) over Europe. This would be the greatest proof that Japanese-made defense equipment is "a top-class product that meets NATO standards." Currently, Australia and New Zealand are considering the Mogami-class destroyer, and this could serve as a catalyst for the European (NATO) market, making it easier for Japan to take the lead in international joint development and technological cooperation.
