Until the night of August 4, 2024, Marius Borg Høiby was simply the eldest son of Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, who led a life more or less removed from the public eye, although always at the center of controversy due to his many and varied jobs, as well as his controversial relationships. But that day everything changed. The young man, now 29, the product of a relationship the princess had before her marriage to Haakon of Norway, was accused of assaulting his then-girlfriend. That would be just the beginning of a legal process in which more victims and complaints came to light, ultimately leading to him being charged with 40 counts. This Monday, the judge announced the sentence: an Oslo court sentenced him on Monday, June 15, to four years in prison for two counts of rape and for assaulting one of his ex-girlfriends, among other crimes, according to public broadcaster NRK. Høiby, who is not part of the Norwegian royal family although he has always been raised as one of them, has been acquitted of two other rape charges by the court.
