The Line Up - The Candy Store Killing (November 16, 1950)

THE LINE UP..... Was a gritty, realistic CBS radio police drama that aired from 1950 to 1953. The show realistically followed the investigations of detectives in an unnamed "great American city" and is famous for its signature opening segment. Unlike other radio procedurals of the era, the program focused entirely on the fictional day-to-day operations of big-city detectives rather than real "ripped-from-the-headlines" cases. Each episode opened in the police auditorium where the sergeant conducted an official police lineup, allowing the audience to hear numbers called out for different suspects. While the lineup set the rhythm and introduced characters, the detectives would then hit the streets to investigate crimes ranging from kidnappings and robberies to complex murder mysteries. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
