Veterinary Clinical Math Basics #3
Kendra the Vet Tech (LVT) back for the 3rd installment of clinical math basics. In this episode we learn how to follow the rules for dispensing and considerations, figuring out dose ranges for a patient and working with capsules. When you are instructed to fill a prescription for so many days, where do you start? Which tablets do you use? Check out an example of a drug that comes in 3 different strengths, in additional to provided instructions for dosage, frequency and duration. Learn how to figure out which strength to used after figuring out the dose your patient needs (by using dimensional analysis), then figure out how many tablets per day based on frequency and how many tablets total based on the duration of treatment provided. Example 2 you are provided with a dosage range, 3 different strengths of the drug, frequency and duration. We set up dimensional analysis to learn what your patient's dose range is, then decide which of the 3 strengths is appropriate for dispensing, and how many tablets to dispense. Finally, the episode wraps up with considerations for working with capsules. Remember when you are doing your calculations that a capsule cannot be halved.
