BOCA CAMPEON 1981-Vs Colon 2 a 0 con Maradona 26 de julio

The 1980 Metropolitano Championship is remembered as the only title Diego Maradona won with Boca Juniors and in Argentina. His other club achievements were with Barcelona of Spain and Napoli of Italy. That Boca team, which finished ahead of Ferro Carril Oeste, was managed by Silvio Marzolini and also featured Miguel Brindisi, a key player in linking up with Maradona and a standout in the matches Diego didn't play. The tournament included 18 teams, and San Lorenzo became the first of the "big five" clubs to be relegated (the other was Colón de Santa Fe). The top scorer was Raúl Chaparro with 20 goals, followed by Juan Ramón Carrasco of Racing with 18, and Diego Maradona with 17. A CURIOUS FACT: It's a curiosity by today's standards, but something common at the time. In several away goals at La Bombonera, you'll see a small group of visiting fans celebrating among the Boca crowd, without any incidents. How wonderful that would be today! Without the separation barriers in the stands, showing empty rows! Another aesthetic and safety point to highlight: fewer fences, both at La Bombonera and in other stadiums. Those were the days.
