DOLORS MARÍN. La historiadora del ANARQUISMO
#podcast #history #anarchism #interview #socialmovements #socialsciences We spoke with historian Dolors Marín. Dolors Marín Silvestre (Hospitalet de Llobregat, 1957) is a Spanish historian and researcher specializing in the history of contemporary European social movements and anarchism. As an expert in the history of contemporary European social movements, Marín has published more than a dozen books with various publishers and has contributed numerous articles to academic journals and popular science magazines. She is a member of the editorial board of the journal Librepensamiento, a publication reflecting on reality and social intervention, published by the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) since 1988. She is also a member of the editorial team of the Diccionari biogràfic de dones (Biographical Dictionary of Women), part of the Xarxa Vives network, a project promoted by the Government of Catalonia and the Island Council of Mallorca to highlight the contributions women have made to the history of Catalan-speaking territories in various fields of knowledge and spheres of action. Marín has brought to light the work of key figures in the feminist and workers' struggles in Catalonia, such as Ángeles López de Ayala and Teresa Claramunt, and has researched the work of the anarchist women's organization Mujeres Libres (Free Women), both before and during the Spanish Civil War. She has worked as a documentary filmmaker and consultant on various audiovisual projects (reports and films), such as “Vivir la utopía” (Living Utopia), about anarchism in the Spanish State; “Catalunya retalls” (RTVE), “Passa el segle” (Canal Nou), “Maquis a Catalunya,” and “Aquell 98” (TV3). She has also curated exhibitions at the Ethnological and World Cultures Museum of Barcelona, including: Surrealisme i Etnografia: la trobada fecunda (2000); L’Hospitalet, 100 anys d’Ajuntament; Collblanc-La Torrassa, història d’un barri (2001); Ètnic (2004); and Gitanos, sis segles de cultura rom a Catalunya (2005). Marín collaborates with the Observatory for Ethnological Research of Catalonia in the field of historical memory.789 She is also a member of Memoria de Mallorca and an advisor to the Commission on Mass Graves of the Government of the Balearic Islands. She collaborates in various events focused on the recovery of historical memory (La Gavilla Verde de Cuenca and the Jerte Region Youth Association in Extremadura), and is a co-founder of the March-Tribute to the Maquis of Catalonia. In 2018, she published the book "Spiritualists and Freethinkers: Pioneering Women in the Struggle for Civil Rights." At the beginning of the 20th century, Barcelona was abuzz with the social changes brought about by industrialization, but also with cultural and political concerns that represented a break with the previous century: utopias, workers, and the building of the city. Within this vibrant scene, a group of women, most of them forgotten by history, emerged who had a real and powerful presence in the construction of a new society. These women broke stereotypes, achieved intellectual training and recognition, and fought for economic and labor independence, creating a point of reference that we can no longer ignore. They are responsible for bringing Spiritism, already practiced in the rest of Europe, to Spain, understood as a confrontation with the system, as a form of radical spirituality that challenges the social order represented by the official church, and as a first step toward free thought. Cándida Sanz, Matilde Fernández, Matilde Alonso, Maria Tulls, and Amalia Domingo are some of the biographies the author presents in this unique book that champions the historiography of dissent. In 2019, he published the book "Scenarios of Memory: Working-Class Women in the Raval" (Associació Cultural El Lokal). The central themes of this narrative, in which some women are the main protagonists, are the education of the working classes, freedom of thought, the right to assembly and association, personal independence from the state, the church and its coercive and normative institutions, labor rights, and the fierce demand for equality. Warp and weft intertwine in our narrative, just as the footsteps of our contemporaries intertwine daily in the beloved, bustling, desolate city of which the Raval is an intrinsic part.
