How to Splice Control Lines
Next Lesson: Control Lines! If you have mastered the Adjustable Eye Splice your next challenge, should you accept it, is continuous control lines. Continuous Control lines – Are the perfect solution to ensure you always have your controls to hand and not stuck on the other side of your boat. Why not get inventive with some plastic or metal rings to guide the control line back inboard behind the cleats. If you are feeling creative add some shockcord and a block to create a take-up system to lead and keep the excess control line out of harm’s way. Once you have decided on your system, set your cascade/purchase system so that the blocks are as far apart as the cascade allows, then thread your control line including your take-up block behind the cleats. Mark the centre of the new control line, leaving yourself at least a 30cm tail and follow the video below to finish off your shiny new system with a seamless continuous splice. Why use Kingfishers Evolution Breeze? - For over a decade now we have trusted in Kingfisher Yacht Ropes to supply us the highest performance rope with excellent value. Evolution breeze has a multifilament polypropylene core and a melange style polyester and Technora® cover. Unlike most braids the strength comes from the cover, so the rope is ideal for endless splices. The melange style of cover is not only for appearance, it also balances the load on the cover and gives the rope good abrasion resistance. Breeze is a perfect choice for racers looking for performance, it is not necessarily the easiest on the market to splice but it’s a long way from the hardest. It’s a perfect balance between performance and being easy enough for the average boat bimbler to splice. You’ll need the following: Marker Pen, 4mm Splicing fid, 3mm Splicing Needle pull fid, Whipping Twine & Needle, Scissors for cutting through Technora cover like the D16 Scissor.
