History repeated: Victories at Anfield don’t come easy – in fact Charlton haven’t won at Liverpool since February 1954 – but they were within four or five minutes of correcting this situation in this match. It brought memories back of the 1961/62 season when the Reds were trailing to a 57th minute Mike Bailey goal only to score twice in the final two minutes to win 2-1. It was Liverpool’s final home match of the season and they preserved their unbeaten record at Anfield by the skin of their teeth. After that game on April 30th, 1962, they were presented with the Second Division Championship Trophy; regaining their top flight status which they have preserved to this day. In retrospect, it was also a significant day for Charlton because it was the final match of one of the club’s greatest players – Stuart Leary.
